Danielle M. Barker aka Dani Danger was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She moved to Portland in 2015 to pursue a career in jazz music. She began her musical journey at Portland State University under the direction of Darrell Grant and Jeff Barker.
Shortly after arriving Barker appeared alongside Portland’s very own MJ New Quartet, was a featured artist at the Portland Jazz festival and has obtained experience as a singer, songwriter and performer by integrating herself fully into PDX’s music scene. As a performer, organizer and songwriter, Danger’s rising talents and diverse experience are delivering a new sound, trajectory and future into the new music industry as she sets the bar for a musical vocabulary drawn from many different genres. Danielle credits Sarah Vaughan, Roberta Flack and Billie Holiday as people who've influenced her powerfully unique soulful sound.
As Supermoon and Danger Zone mark the beginning of Dani Danger’s first releases, she has simultaneously been writing music for years. These songs were written during the time of deep shift in humanity both surrounding COVID and the inherent systemic racism rooted in the fabric of the country, ingrained in the sentiments being screamed all across the world; stop killing black people. These songs are more than just heartbreak, love, unrequited love, and the sharing of intimacy. These songs call out what is not happening, as well as speak on things that have existed in this culture for so long, whether it be the horrendous and forgotten stories of murder, or misogynistic tendencies being too accepted in our communities. Through anger and frustration, community and activism, Dani Danger has created two very unique songs, very pertinent to this chapter in time and the past, and future. Her powerful voice echoes over the top of multi-instrumental and produced tracks that give the genre-bending sound something fresh, deep, and emotive. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for a full-length record in the coming months.
